Hello contestants and Advisors of the Utah SkillsUSA AST contest, I have provided a timeline for the contest that may help you plan your day. The secondary, high school group will start with check-in at 7am on Thursday March 28th followed by an orientation meeting and contest start time of 8am. Post-secondary/college group will start check-in/orientation at 12:30 with a contest start time of 1pm. The group 1, secondary/ high school will finish at noon, then eat lunch. No more time is needed after that. The college/post-secondary group 2 should arrive around 11:30 to eat lunch and be ready for orientation at 12:30. Your contest will end at around 5pm. Remember to attend the Award Ceremony on Friday March 29th at 6pm. Be part of this great celebration of achievement. Lunch will be provided for contestants and advisors by SkillsUSA Utah at 11:30 or noon, depending on when they arrive. They heard your request and are making changes to improve your experience. I have ordered them for you so please participate so they don’t go to waste. The ASE Exam will be administered ONLINE this year. You will receive an email with login information on Friday March 8th. You will have until the 22nd to complete the exams or lose the 125 points. You will be directed to take two exams. Make sure to take both the ASE and the SkillsUSA exams as they both factor into your total points possible. I also included a sample scorecard that will tell you the areas that you should expect to see during the contest. Make note that there are two tabs on the bottom of the document, one for secondary and the other for post-secondary. They are different. Each contest will be 12 testing stations. Each will have a time of 15 minutes. You will have 3 minutes to rotate stations before the clock starts at the new station. Please plan on rotating quickly so there are no delays. Advisors will be able to watch from a distance, but not enter the testing area. We will be cramped with no room for spectators. Safety glasses are mandatory! If you have prescription glasses, they require a side shield to be installed. Please print two copies of your Resume and bring them to the job interview or customer service stations. Please print your safety certificate and present it at check-in/orientation. No hats will be allowed unless they are SkillsUSA hats of a ball cap design. Regarding the technical stations, Hunter Engineering equipment will be used during the alignment and tire and wheel stations. Snap-on or OTC scan tools will be used, no factory scan tools expected unless noted in future update. Fluke multi-meters will most likely be used. That is all for this update. Salt Lake Community College and I are looking forward to hosting this great group of elite students for the Utah AST SkillsUSA Contest.
