Competition, creativity, and chapter spirit.

These Utah-specific opportunities recognize technical craftsmanship, student creativity, and active chapter participation.

Review each program carefully: the T-shirt and pin challenge is a Director’s Choice program and is separate from the medal competitions held at ULSC.

Wood Turning

Competitors demonstrate their ability to design and produce an original woodturning project and explain all aspects of its design and creation. Projects are evaluated on design, creativity, craftsmanship, and quality of work. Competitors submit a professional portfolio documenting the design and creation process, including photographs, sketches or drawings, materials and expenses. Each competitor participates in an interview about the design and creation of the project and completes a written test covering woodturning safety, equipment, tools and tool use.

T-Shirt & Pin Design Challenges

Create an original design considered for the official Utah shirt or trading pin. Separate entries are required when submitting both categories.

Cecil Cellars Spirit Award

Chapters earn points through participation, activities, event attendance, and sharing their SkillsUSA Utah spirit throughout the year.

Create the look Utah takes to nationals.

Student designers can submit an original Utah-themed T-shirt design, Utah-themed pin design, Four Corners pin design, or all three for consideration as the official SkillsUSA Utah designs.

This is a Director’s Choice design challenge. It is separate from the T-Shirt and Pin Design competitions held at the Utah Leadership & Skills Conference and at the National Leadership & Skills Conference.

Design submission requirements

Create the artwork using vector editing software.
Outline all fonts and identify the typefaces used.
Identify Pantone colors or exact color mixes.
Use a separate template and entry for each design category.
Include a brief description of the inspiration behind the design.

Cecil Cellars Spirit Award

The Cecil Cellars Spirit Award recognizes SkillsUSA Utah chapters that go above and beyond in participation, leadership, and school spirit. Chapters earn points throughout the year by attending events, completing chapter activities, engaging in leadership opportunities, and sharing their SkillsUSA experiences. The more your chapter participates, the more points you earn.

STEPS

Create Your Account

Create a chapter or school SkillsUSA social media account and make sure your chapter advisor has access.

Share Your Activity

Create an Instagram feed post describing your activity and tag SkillsUSA Utah. Instagram stories do not count toward points.

Track Your Points

Designate a chapter officer or advisor to keep track of points earned throughout the year.

WAYS TO EARN POINTS

Event Attendance

20 points: Attend Fall Leadership Conference
20 points: Attend State Leadership & Skills Conference
5 points: Take a photo with a state officer at FLC
1 point: Per chapter member attending the delegate session

Quality Chapter

200 points: Level 2 Chapter of Distinction
75 points: Level 1 Quality Chapter

SkillsUSA Week

25 points: Per activity, per day during SkillsUSA Week

Chapter Activities

30 points: Collaborate with more than two SkillsUSA chapters
20 points: Guest speakers, fundraisers, service projects, banquets, socials, and other chapter activities
15 points: News article featuring your chapter

Leadership

10 points: Present to your local school board
10 points: Per chapter member elected as a state officer
10 points: Host a state officer at a chapter event outside their home chapter
5 points: Per state officer candidate

Posts must be permanent Instagram feed posts and must tag SkillsUSA Utah to qualify where social sharing is required.
